3 things makeup pros ALWAYS do backstage at Fashion Week

We're in the thick of Fashion Week season at the moment, so what better time to go through some backstage secrets from the makeup pros?

Hectic, crazy, manic: these are all ways you'll often hear people describe working behind the scenes at Fashion Week whether it's in London, Milan, Paris or New York. But it's also a total hotbed for tips and tricks as everyone is testing out new products, techniques, sharing tips and working their makeup artist wizardry.

Here are some of our favourite tips we've picked up from the backstage insiders who make the magic happen.

  • Not sure where, or how to highlight your skin? Makeup artist Talia Shobrook (who's the key artist for Jenny Packham NYC to name a few) has a handy way to remember: "Work highlighter into your skin where the light naturally hits your face, which happens to be in the shape of the numeral three. Start at the centre of your forehead and come in toward the outer tip of your nostril. End it right in the middle of your chin, then repeat on the other side."
  • Want to make your eyes look bigger? One of makeup maestro Pat McGrath's top tips is to focus your mascara on the top lashes only. Then use a neutral, flesh-toned pencil on the inner water to brighten, followed by an illuminating liquid on the inner corners to catch the light.
  • We all want flawless skin right? Well then, who better to learn from than Lisa Eldridge? Known for creating a beautiful complexion on models for runway, as well as editorials and in her own videos, Lisa's tip is to try switching from a foundation to a blusher brush, to "really buff foundation into the skin to get that airbrushed ‘no makeup’ makeup look".
