3 surprising products you can use as an eye shadow primer

If you are a makeup fan you'll know well that in order for your eyeshadow to blend perfectly and last all day long, the secret's is in the base.

If you don't prime a wall or object before you paint it, the paint won't go on well or it will start to chip off. The same goes for when you're painting a human body part, like the eyelid. But what do you do if you don't have an eyeshadow primer or if you have run out? Or what if you are as poor as a house-elf and can't possibly splash out.

Well, there are other things that you might already own that will do just the job to get you out of a pickle. Here are three of the best alternatives.

  • Concealer

This concealer has a buildable formula that dries to a semi-matte finish. For me, it's my favourite of eyeshadow bases, but it does require a bit of work making sure it's perfectly even and that the consistency is right. My advice is to use a flat brush when you apply it and layer it up.

High Brow

The Benefit High Brow has a gorgeous colour tone and consistency. With the pencil, colour in your whole lid all the way up to the brow. Then blend it out with a fluffy brush for the best results.

  • Cream Eye Shadow

The Maybelline Colour Tattoo can actually be worn on its own and also as an eyeshadow base. With this one, my advice it to choose a matte colour and if you are using it as a base work fast because the shadow can be quite drying so, less is more.

These might just get you out of trouble when you least expect it.
