SS09 Corals & Golds: Wearable, timeless, yet bang on-trend

ss09 corals and gold

It seems that every season, there's a new beauty trend to be followed, with particular hues being declared in or out at a sometimes dizzying rate.  Trying to keep pace with it all can sometimes seem like a daunting prospect, but there are two spring/summer colours that you can pretty much be guaranteed will crop up year after year:  coral and gold.

Both look ab fab with the bit of bronzer or tan that you're more likely to be sporting this time of year than in the darkest depths of winter, and coral is an easy-to-wear variant of the orange shades that were Big Beauty News for SS09.

To tap into a trend that you'll actually be able to get more than one summer out of, paler skins should try a wash of coral on lips, cheeks, or eyes, with gold accents to highlight cheekbones, your cupid's bow, the inner corners of the eyes, and the browbones for a polished, natural look. For more sallow and darker skins or to achieve a more intense, gorgeously tropical look, go with products that are loaded with pigment, build them up, and team with hot pink lips.

My personal picks would be something like NARS Orgasm/Super Orgasm, to have you covered on both the coral and gold fronts, Benefit Coralista, or YSL Coral Sand for cheeks, MAC Vegas Volt or similar for lips, and maybe Eyeko's Powder, NARS Sparkling Pressed Powder, Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer in Golden Sand, or Origins Halo Effect for a shimmery gold highlighter, depending on whether you prefer a powder or liquid formulation.

And if you're not convinced that this is a colour combo that would work for you, or you'd like to stay on-trend and in budget, try a flash of coral on your nails - there's a myriad of coral nail polishes out there, from Rimmel to Revlon to L'Oreal to Essie, to hopefully suit all pockets!
