Here's the pro's guide to Emma Stone's pin-up Oscars makeup look

Emma Stone looked every bit the glamorous pin-up on the red carpet this week. Her makeup is one of my all-time favourite makeup looks.

This look is relatively easy for anybody to recreate once you have some good eyeshadow blending brushes. It’s a soft, well blended smokey eye with a burgundy lip and it will look beautiful on most skin tones.

If a dark lip scares you, just substitute the lip colour for something in a nude pink tone. I suggest Charlotte Tilbury in Kim K W, which also complements this look perfectly.

  • Start with the Skin

Begin with your base. To get Emma Stone's flawless porcelain skin, apply Clarins Beauty Flash Balm to prep your skin. Makeup Forever HD foundation photographs well. Apply it using a stifle brush, like MAC #130. Then put MAC Pro Longwear concealer under the eyes and sweep it across the cheekbones to highlight them at the same time.

Set the foundation with some translucent powder (I love MAC Mineralize Skinfinish). Then, I would use something like Bobbi Brown Bronzing powder in medium to add soft contouring. Emma's blusher is a plum colour to complement her burgundy lip; MAC Plum Foolery would work well. Finally, highlight the higher plains of the face - the cheekbones, cupids bow, jawline and slightly above and below the brows.

  • The Smokey Eyes

Moving onto the eyes, Emma's brows have soft structure, and you can achieve lovely arches with Benefit Brow Zings. Go for a shade natural to your hair colour. I always apply a base to keep shadow in place. MAC's Paint Pot in Painterly is a great base, use your finger to put that all the way from the lash line to the brow. Apply a base colour eyeshadow over the paint pot.

Next, sweep a subtle light brown shade like ‘Naked’ from the Naked Palette by Urban Decay through the socket line and wrap it all the way around the eye - this is the transition colour. (Note: you will need to use a big fluffy blending brush to do this; the MAC #224 is perfect.) Then, apply 'Buck’ to the lid. Deepen the crease with MAC Embark eyeshadow. Put this warm, dark brown into the lower lash line too with a slanted liner brush. Finish the eyes with a black gel liner across the lid with a flick and lots of mascara.

  • The Burgundy Lip

For a burgundy lip like Emma's use a lip primer to keep it all in place. Then, I would use MAC's lip pencil in ‘Burgundy’ and would finish with a matte lipstick,‘Chilli’, also by MAC.
