Say bye to your beach waves; here's proof that the perm has returned

Much of the 80s have crept back into fashion over the past few years. Because it's been so stealthy, we haven't noticed that style we're into now is the same style we made fun of at the turn of the century. Now, shoulder pads are good. Tight jeans are great. But the perm? Surely that's one trend that deserves to stay buried in time?

I would have hoped so, but one hair stylist to the stars is determined to bring the perm back. He was responsible for the barnet Mandy Moore sported at an event last week.

It's a big, beautiful perm. And dammit, we like it!

Ted Gibson, the stylist in question, revealed to Us Magazine that he wanted to change up the beachy wave thing that's currently en vogue. Two famous 80's ladies inspired the look (and you won't be surprised at who they are). Ted says, “I’ve recently been inspired by Jennifer Beals from Flashdance and Jennifer Grey from Dirty Dancing and thought the look would be perfect for Mandy!”

Luckily, you don't have to commit to several months of tight curls if you want to try out the look. Instead, Ted instructs how to do the perm thing for one night only. Using a curling iron, he says: “I directed the curl toward the face, but roughed it up a bit. It was important to me that her curls looked like they grew out of her head that way.” He set it with everyone's favourite 80s beauty hero, hairspray.
