Rightio, we've seen a lot of the spring/summer 2011 beauty launches at this stage and a fair few of them have passed the Beaut.ie newsdesk (read: kitchen table) at this point too. So I thought it might be educational - not to mention instructive, naturally - to see a few swatches of some of the new-season shadow palettes.

Ombres Perlées de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette from Chanel's Les Perles de Chanel collection is one of the nicest to land and it's on counter now. At €50 it is not what you'd call cheap. So is it nice?
YES!
It's blimmin' gorgeous. Chanel's more usual quads have a sheer, baked texture which you can build and over the past while I've really come around to them; they're especially good for glam, grown-up night time drama. Ombres Perlées contains a new powder shadow formulation for Chanel, a creamy, soft texture with a pearly, iridescent finish.
Shades are Blanc perle, Rose porcelaine, Violine clair, Gris vert and Gris noir scintillant, and they're all super-soft and easy to apply and blend, with a fairly sheer finish. You're not going to get in-yer-face pigmentation with Chanel because that's not what this brand is all about. The payoff is meant to be chic and elegant - and indeed it is.

Needless to say this shot doesn't quite capture the silky smoothness and hint of iridescence that's in each. Curse this winter light, is all I can say.

You can get a better sense of how the light reflects on them with this swatch.

And one last look. In all case shadows are swatched quite thickly in the same order as they appear in the palette and stand-outs for me are the final three dark colours. Just gorgeous, and perfect for the newish trend for a super-blended out smokey eye.

Worth the €50? For a Chanel fan, certainly; for an older lady who values subtlety, definitely.
For someone hoping to be assaulted by the Taylor Momsen smokey-eye effect of the Mac makeup gun? Nope.
