So, let's just get this straight: The Guinness Storehouse has beaten cultural icons like the Eiffel Tower and the Colosseum to become Europe's leading tourist attraction. We're a little astounded. Do people really like Guinness that much? We had a glass of Beamish at the weekend, just to see what it was like, and we'll tell you, it's pretty much the same thing. We moved onto cocktails pretty soon after.
Anyway, yes, it's all true, The Guinness Storehouse has been named Europe's top attraction by The World Travel Awards, after it was presented with the award at a ceremony in Sardinia last night.
We've been there (we brought visitors) and we can confirm that The Storehouse teaches its visitors just about everything they could want to know about Guinness, from the entire history of the company, right down to the making and distribution of the drink across the world. It's had over 13 million visitors since it opened in 2006, and that probably has something to do with why it claimed the prestigious prize.
Managing Director of the Storehouse, Paul Carty, called it, "a victory for Irish tourism", which we guess it is. Kudos definitely have to go to the marketing team too.
Only 8% of visitors are Irish; American, British, French, German and Italian tourists were the top five nationalities to visit the Storehouse last year.

In fairness, the tour is actually really good fun, and you get the chance to drink a pint of the Black Stuff while looking out over all of Dublin. That view from the top is totally worth it.
