Celeb hair trends: Getting the chop

Looks like poor ol' Cheryl Cole needn't have been quite so quick to stick those hair extensions back into her barnet: a rake of fashionable slebs have been sporting shorter 'dos lately.

And sure if Chezza had hung onto her nice mid-length locks a while longer, we might all have been spared the horror of those feckin' hair ears.

Emma Watson went for the chop in a big way once shooting of the last instalmentin the Harry Potter franchise had wrapped. The actress said of her new look that it was inspired in part by her ma and in part by Mia Farrow, and it was something she'd wanted to do for a really long time but reckoned the filmmakers would have put the kibosh on it.

I guess it was pretty unlikely that Warner Brothers would have approved a cropped style for star witch Hermione.

Even if it was a pixie crop. (Ba-dumm tissch!)

Model Carmen Kass recently unveiled a similarly close-cut hairstyle at Paris Fashion Week, which also saw the inaugural public outing of Keira Knightley's latest 'do. Knightley had her hair cut up into a more traditional-looking bob which she wore sleek and straight for its unveiling at the PFW Chanel show, but it looks really gorgeous worn mussed up with a bit of a wave and some movement. Can you tell that I rather like it?

The most surprising cut of all was Scarlett Johanssen's: although she plays around with colour, hopping from blonde to brunette to redhead and back again, she does usually stick with lots of length in her hair. She chopped an awful lot of it off during the summer in favour of a shoulder-grazing style, and last month she got another inch or two off it to debut a choppy new shorter bob at a Mango launch in Barcelona.

All these scissor-happy celebs have me itching to change up my own look, but the last time I wore my hair really short I was 16 and it made me look like a boy. And not in a cool, sexy, androgynous way.

Bearing that in mind, I might just stick with the faux bob for now - have any of you gone for the chop of late or are you thinking about it?
