The three best healthy snacks to keep 'hanger' at bay

Hangry: When you are so hungry that your lack of food causes you to become angry, frustrated or both. This is something that I’ve encountered several times!

Food is my friend and if I don’t see it often enough I most certainly get cranky. Sometimes I get really peckish in between meals, especially if I’m on the go, busy and “don’t have time to eat”.

It can be tricky to prepare snacks or find something suitable in the shops. I have an occasional protein bar but like to try other things too. Recently, I popped into Marks & Spencer and was pleasantly surprised by the selection of healthy snacks they had. Here are some of my favourites.

  • Boiled eggs

These are in a handy little pot with the shells removed. I know it’s cheaper to buy a box of eggs and make them yourself, but for €2.20 they’re not a bad price considering most protein bars are €3 or more. Eggs are a great source of protein and this little snack pot fills me up nicely.

  • Greek yogurt

Most of the Greek yogurt I buy is in pint tubs. It’s great to see the good stuff in small portions too. Don’t forget to grab a disposable spoon at the till and this is a perfect, filling little snack.

  • Carrot sticks with hummus and apple slices with peanut butter

Again, I know it’s cheaper to buy a jar of PB and a bag of apples, but these little packs are perfect if you are looking for something ready to eat.

Most of these snacks can be prepared at home and brought to work in a lunchbox if you’re organised. From time to time we all get stuck though and it makes me happy to know that there are options out there that suit my diet!
