Autumn 06 Trends #2: Red Lips

red lipsRed lips are back with a vengenace for Autumn/Winter. And the key product this year is lipstick as opposed to gloss. Lipstick has had a bad rap the last few years, with a matte look being rejected and high shine being far more popular. I know I haven't used lipstick in a long time.

Red lipstick comes in many shades, from orangey-reds, purpley-reds and browny-reds. What will suit you very much depends on your skintone. The reason red has a bad rep is precisely because of its variety of shades and how those shades interract with skintones. If you get the balance right, there is no reason why every woman can't wear red. So the key here is experimentation to find what suits your particular skin type. Us Irish ladies mostly have pale skintones so apparently bluey-reds suit us better - but I know personally orangey-reds are way more forgiving to my complexion.

Good products to try include Chanel who are always reliable for red lipsticks and MAC's original Viva Glam shade. But before you splurge, you could think about trying out a couple of shades from cheaper ranges like 17 and Rimmel, to see what sort of red suits your complexion.
