This autumn, we're wearing a €40 version of the season's It shoe

The Balenciaga mules are teetering on early noughties territory - and everyone is going to want a pair

Kitten heels are back in, and they're 'not disgusting anymore'. They're the shoe of the season, and we've been brainwashed once more by the fashion industry to believe they're not the ugliest shoes ever designed. (They did the same with the furry Gucci leather mules. Note to self: when a trend first arrives, don't denounce it until you've read Leandra Medine's opinion.) I've written about kitten heels a thousand times over the past few weeks, and I'm wearing a pair right now. But the 1940s Park Avenue kind, not the Balenciaga mules kind.

The Balenciaga mule is going there. It's doing it. Its demon ways will convince you that long and pointy is cool and flattering. Yes, the worst type of kitten heel is back in, and there's nothing you can do to stop from wanting a pair.

Balenciaga Knife Mule €525

So pointy! So pointy they could literally cut you. Are they... are they just a little... Atomic Kitten? That's the point, I suppose. 2002 style would have to come back some time, and Balenciaga decided it's now. So we just gotta deal with it. At least they're not covered in neon paisley print!

The main attraction is the super point, which Balenciaga has ended its boots and courts with, too. Zara - of course - has options.

But when the time comes that you accept the knife point mule into your life, don't spend over €100 on yours. You'll probably hate them again this time next year.
