Review: The Heritage Hero Package at The Heritage Killenard

We were told that the 'Hero Package' at The Heritage Killenard would rescue and revive. Well, it did just that... and then some.

We sent one of our lovely readers Ranae and her wife to enjoy the ‘Hero Package at the Heritage Killenard.

It was our first night away from our 9-month-old, and we were feeling quite anxious. But the promise of afternoon tea and spa treatments was enough to lure us away for the night. Baby was left in the safe hands of her auntie and uncle, and it was off to Killenard for the two of us.

Set in the gorgeous surroundings of Killenard, we were nicely surprised when it took less than an hour from Dublin city centre. Walking up to the entrance of The Heritage, one feels as though something special is about to happen. With a magnificent driveway and entrance, it has a touch of old school glamour. To the left, as you enter is a lovely little fairy flower garden, one of the many little extras that makes this 5-star resort so special.

Afternoon tea was served at 1 pm and 3 pm. We arrived late, but we still had time to catch the last sitting. She had detox tea, and I had peppermint. Then the platter of gluten-free goodies arrived on a traditionally presented three-tiered platter. The desserts, in particular, were divine. The chocolate fudge brownie was to die for. A glass of prosecco each was the perfect way to finish it off.

We then headed over to Spa where I enjoyed the The Heritage Spa’s signature ESPA Hero treatment. Lasting for eighty minutes, the therapist targeted three key areas to aid relaxation. The treatment began with a back exfoliation and hot stone massage, followed by a customised facial tailored to my skin, finishing with a relaxing scalp massage. It was absolutely heavenly!

Then I spent another half hour relaxing in the fabulous ‘Heritage Spa Experience’, a sensory journey blending heating and cooling sensations that leaves the body feeling soothed, relaxed and reinvigorated. The idea is to guide each guest through the extensive Thermal Suite with the ultimate aim of leaving the body feeling profoundly alive and invigorated.

After all of that pampering I had worked up an appetite, so we headed down to the main dining room for dinner. I had the steak with sides of veg and creamed potato, while she had a specially made gluten free burger and chips at her request. Our server was attentive and accommodating. We had our desserts of creme brulee and white chocolate and raspberry parfait
sent up to our room. The gorgeous views over the 115 acre golf course from our balcony, as the sun went down, was a perfect end to a wonderful evening.

We woke up on Monday morning to a unseasonably beautiful day. After packing up, we went down for breakfast. Taking our time over omelettes and toast, we were delighted to see there was an excellent variety of gluten free foods, something which is often overlooked in hotels. Sitting in the gorgeous dining room, we enjoyed our last few minutes of luxury over a latte before
checking out and beginning the 50 minute drive back to the city.
