Can this futuristic device really stop a spot in its tracks?

Brought to you by Neutrogena

A couple of months ago, we went on a search. We wanted to find three dedicated beauty fans to try out a brand new device, a unique new beauty product that - curiously - doesn't come in a bottle. We searched for readers who were prone to breaking out from time to time because the product in question is the newest innovation in blemish control. What is it? Neutrogena Light Therapy Targeted Acne Treatment.

The little device is compact and handy, so we gave it to the three women we chose to try it to stash in their handbag, or by their bed or wherever else it could easily be grabbed when a spot began to rear its ugly head. We caught up with them after a month; here's what they have to say.

Cliona, 37

I normally get monthly breakouts (I get them more often if I get lazy with my skincare routine). The Neutrogena Light Therapy definitely helped stop large sore spots under my skin from coming through. It started working within 24 hours. I even used it last night; what was a sore spot under the skin is no longer sore now, and I can see it shrinking. It definitely helped my monthly breakouts; they were less noticeable and lasted for much shorter than normal.

I get spots pretty frequently, probably one or two a week. I used the Neutrogena Light Therapy on a couple of spots in the early stages and noticed that it brought it to the surface quicker, which is good as I normally get lumps that sit under the skin. I will continue to use it; I think it does help with the time/life cycle of spots. It's super easy to use!

Would you recommend the product to a friend?

Yes, if they just get the odd spot here and there, probably not for someone who gets a lot, the similar mask would probably be more time effective.

I get maybe one or two spots a week. I had been getting a rather big spot (probably a stress spot, I am in the middle of exams) and I used it straight away, and I found that the spot never formed. It took down the redness straight away and almost all of the swelling. It's so easy to use; you just press a button, and it's on! If I had to give one criticism, the battery on it goes very quickly.* I had only been using it for about two weeks, and it started to flash that it was low. Overall a handy tool!

When the light stops working, simply replace the AAA battery in the Neutrogena Light Therapy Targeted Acne Treatment for continued use. You will need a small Phillips head screwdriver to access the battery.

We couldn't give up the opportunity to try the Neutrogena Light Therapy Targeted Acne Treatment ourselves. Here's what our blemish-prone team member had to say.

Beaut Review

I get regular spots but particularly around certain times of the month and high-stress times. When I was using this product, I had a particularly bad breakout.

The Neutrogena Light Therapy Targeted Acne Treatment was very easy to use. My favourite thing about it is that it's light and I can pop it into my makeup bag to use when needed. I also like that it was a quick treatment - it only takes two minutes - and I could choose what areas to use it on.

I was surprised at how fast I saw results. I normally panic when I get hormonal spots as they can stay for nearly two weeks. Because they are there for so long, I'm afraid that I normally pick them which unfortunately makes them stay longer. However, when I used the Neutrogena Light Therapy Targeted Acne Treatment, I saw within two days a significant decrease in the size and redness. After seven days, it was completely gone. I was going on holidays the following week, so I was extremely happy with the results. I've very reactive skin and lately I'm trying not to overload my skin with products, so this is ideal for me and anyone else looking for a chemical-free solution to treat blemishes.

I would recommend to friends if they suffered from an occasional breakout.
