It was obviously tough being out of the spotlight for Suri Cruise last week. With Katie Holmes appearing everywhere as the new face of Bobbi Brown cosmetics and Tom Cruise off discovering his Oirish-ness, the international media didn't have much time left for 7-year old Suri - until she appeared sporting a new and apparently self-inflicted hairdo.
With no confirmation on whether Katie did find her in the kitchen with scissors in hand, we'll have to decide for ourselves whether the uneven, super-short fringe was her own work or just a new style-statement that we'll all be asking for in the salon by summertime.

If it was her own doing, I applaud her restraint in not hacking at the length of her lovely hair, which is the style most commonly favoured by little girls looking to practice their hairdressing skills on themselves. But where an asymmetric haircut can be fixed by a cute bob, there's not really much an actual professional hairstylist can do with the ultra-short blunt fringe to fix it.
I was never tempted to take a scissors to my hair myself as a child, but I remember when my friend next door was discovered in the kitchen after bedtime having cut herself the fringe her mother didn't want her to get. And I know it's somewhat of a rite of passage for lots of kids, so I'll be hiding the scissors well before mine get any ideas.
Did you ever take a scissors to your own hair when you were younger, or have you had to bring a child into a salon to rescue what was left of their hair? Let us know in the comments!
