Does This Ring any Belles?

makeup"girls, I have to ask. How much time do y'all spend on your beautifying"?, was the question Belle asked us in Blather on Moanday. She continued, "(I) get so bored with it all. My hair NEVER turns out the way i want, so usually goes into a pony tail, my make up slides off after an hour, and just looks bleh. As regards waxing and tanning, I use an epilator so the pain dissuades me until I look like a mountain man, (job no. 1 on weds for bath!!) and tanning - I've seen too many tanorexics!", was her complaint. What gets her the most is the constant vigilance that surrounds the whole beauty business - "my problem is you have to keep doing it again and again and again. *snore*", she complained.

I thought this was really interesting, and also pretty pertinent. There's no doubt that beaut.ie is a blog about something, which on the surface, seems quite superficial to a lot of people. And I suppose it is to those who don't get it, or who aren't interested in it. Me, I pick and choose - I don't go in for gel nails and waxes but I own a strongbox load of makeup and get a huge amount of pleasure from it, because to me, the makeup I choose for an evening out, or a meeting, or whatever I'm making up for, is always different, and I always try to inject some personality into it. I find it a hugely creative thing, and I get a big kick out of thinking up new combinations.

What I'm mostly trying to say here is that I think we all approach this differently. By a lot of peoples standards, I'm shamefully low maintenance. I don't give much of a fig about cellulite, I'm not a size 10 and I've never had a spray tan. And I probably never will either, it's not me - I absolutely embrace being pale, and FIERCELY interesting, of course. (I reserve the right to totally change my mind about this tomorrow, of course)

So, I think the beauty business can be a great leveller, at least it definitely is on beaut.ie - and that's a great thing. We have gals who buy two items of makeup a year happily rubbing shoulders with those whose idea of hell is Maybelline, and we're all swapping hints and tips as we go, and generally getting on great.

But anyway - on to Belle's question! How much time do you reckon it takes you to get fabillis? Me - morning, about 20 minutes, and if I'm going out, perhaps half an hour, more if deforesting needs to be done, but in general, not much longer than that.

And yourselves?
