One for you, one for me: Do you self-gift at Christmas?

One for you, one for me: Do you self-gift at Christmas?

There are two questions that I dread fielding at this time of year.

One is "What are you doing on Christmas Day?" when uttered by Himself's mam/my mam. We rotate between them for dinner every year and they always feign memory loss in the run up to the festive season, innocently pretending in classic Irish Mammy fashion that they can't remember where we spent the previous Christmas in hopes of bagging us for a second year in a row.

Mammies are dead sneaky sometimes. Sure you couldn't be up to them.

The other is "Are you all set for Christmas?"

I am never - ever - all set for Christmas. The only presents I unfailingly pick up well in advance of The Big Day itself are pour moi. I find myself easier to buy for than anyone else, it seems; I'm exactly like your woman off the Boots ad who buys a rake of three for two items and then wants to keep them for herself.

So is it just me and Boots lady or do you gals, eh, "accidentally" pick up nice things for yourselves when you're supposed to be present shopping for others?
