If you haven’t already heard about Batkid, the tiny caped crusader who saved Gotham City (i.e. San Francisco) last week, well fair warning guys, this story is almost guaranteed to make you well up with tears of wonder at how amazingly lovely people can be sometimes.

On Friday, the Make-A-Wish Foundation transformed San Francisco into Gotham City with the help of 11,000 volunteers so that five year old Miles Scott, who had spent the last four years battling cancer, could celebrate his recovery by living out his dream of being Batman for a day.

The entire city got behind their new superhero and massive crowds lined the streets to cheer him on all day as he fought crime and kept the streets safe.

Are you ready to have your heart well and truly warmed? Because after reading this you’re going to want to up sticks and move to San Francisco.

Batkid to the rescue!

Batkid’s day began with a personal call from the city’s chief of police, alerting him to the fact that the Riddler and the Penguin were on the loose and up to no good. Quick as a flash, Batkid and Batman jumped into their Batmobile and rescued a woman who had been tied up on the cable car tracks by the nefarious Riddler.

He later stopped the Riddler from robbing a bank in the Financial District, and was then alerted by a flash mob to the fact that the Penguin had kidnapped the San Francisco Giants mascot, Lou Seal. Batkid sprang into action and chased the Penguin to a ballpark, where he cleared an obstacle course and released Lou, all to chants of “Batkid! Batkid! Batkid!” from onlookers.

I CAN'T DEAL WITH HOW AMAZING IT ALL WAS.

He was later presented with the key to the city by the mayor in front of thousands of people at City Hall and received a message from President Obama, who recorded a short video to say “Way to go Miles, way to save Gotham.”

The lengths that San Francisco went to for this adorable superhero is about to make my heart burst altogether. Local news sites tweeted throughout the day, reporting on Batkid defeating his foes and the jumbotron in the ballpark where he rescued Lou Seal displayed a message that read “San Francisco Giants Love Batkid.”

The San Francisco Chronicle printed 1000 special editions of the paper as the Gotham City Chronicle, with the front page covering Batkid’s heroics.

The lead story was written by Clark Kent!

I’m not crying, it’s just been raining on my face.

Oh and did I mention that his little brother was dressed as Robin for the day?

WHERE ARE THE DAMN TISSUES?
