The internet can be a dark and negative place sometimes and the more time we spend online the more it affects our mood. Here are some simple ways you can improve your own mood and others by spreading more positivity online.

1. Interact with friends posts on social media

This may seem like an obvious one but liking and commenting on pictures, videos or tweets of friends is the easiest way to make your online experience more positive.

I find that a lot of people are reluctant to like or comment on posts from people they know but aren't too friendly with, for fear that it would look strange, but it honestly doesn't.

Whether we like to admit it or not, everyone likes receiving positive engagement on social media. I can nearly guarantee that if you positively engage with a social media post from a friend or acquaintance they will love it and appreciate the positivity and kind words.

2. Unfollow negative accounts

We all have those people that we follow on social media whose posts just annoy or anger us, whether that's because they are generally pessimistic about the world or they have differing views to us.

It's so easy to let accounts like these get the better of us but the best way to deal with them is to make use of the unfollow, mute and block features that all social media platforms offer.

You will feel so much better scrolling through social media when you don't have to look at or engage with accounts that anger or annoy you.

3. Help small business and entrepreneurs

With so many products, businesses and artists out there nowadays it's becoming increasingly difficult for small business owners, entrepreneurs and artists to get their work out and maintain their business.

So one simple and free way you can help them out is by sharing and engaging with their content on social media.

If you go to a small new café that you loved, why not post about it on social media and mention the business. Simple gestures like this can be a huge help to small businesses and they will really appreciate the support.

Plus, it's always a great feeling when you recommend something to a friend and they end up loving it.

These were just a few simple ways to make your online space more positive. How do you like to spread positivity both online and off?
