Treat or Trick? O2 Treat Card Appears to be a Bit of a Swizz

02 treat card

Susan got in touch with us to tell us about a problem she has with O2s much-advertised Treat Card, which you got if you bought a mobile before Christmas. She'd bought one for her aunt, and the deal was as follows: buy a pre-pay phone, and get a card worth €100, which could be redeemed for lots of lovely treats. Sounds good, eh?

"My aunt was with me when I bought it and was told she would be able to use the card to get her hair done", Susan tells us. But there was a little snag: the list of treats wasn't revealed until the first of January 09, so you were buying blind. When she went to check out the O2 Treat Card site to see what was on offer, she was sorely disappointed. And indeed, the list of pampering 'treats' seems pretty thin, with only six companies offering them, and out of that, only one is in Dublin, where a significant proportion of the population live.

"Have a look", Susan urged, adding, "not much here for anyone living in Dublin. When I contacted O2 about the hair do mentioned at point of purchase, they said there were options out of Dublin!" Those options would be at the four Colour Me Beautiful locations, the nearest being in Kildare.

Advertised

So, Susan is a bit ticked off with O2, and when she complained, she was told that the promotion was being handled externally. For this gal, that wasn't a good enough excuse. "It was their big Christmas promotion", she insists, and feels it's a big let down.

Did any of you buy a phone with O2 before Christmas, with the Treat Card being the carrot that led you in? Are you disappointed with the list of pamper options on offer? Leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts.
