It's like that ad with the flares. Girl goes into shop to buy something bang on trend. Sales girl looks at watch and tells her flares are so in right... now. Girl buys flares and is in fashion for two seconds before she is "OMG. SO over".
Well seasonal beauty trends are very like that. Strong looks come through from year to year and seasonal trends are really just variations on that. Having said that it's great fun to see what's in for the season isn't it? And here's what's IN and OUT for Autumn 09.

- Orange tan is the biggest beauty no no this season. The look is natural, so go easy on the fake tan.
- Straight hair. GHD, ironed straight hair is out out out.
- Dita Von Teese. No longer hot. The over groomed chalk white look was always going to be too much maintenance for us mere mortals wasn't it? Having said that she will probably be as hot as ever for Winter
- Trying too hard. Don't look too groomed or too polished. Relax. Hurrah!
- Need we say it? Gel nails are SO over.
- Everything thats now out will be back in in miliseconds. So don't worry if you're still rocking a trend that's out. Or in. I'm confusing myself now.

- Messy ponytails, wavy hair and even a bit of Frizz. Yes I can't believe I just typed that. Can frizz ever really be in?
- Blusher is back. If you normally use bronzer this is your time to experiment with colour. Orgasm anyone?
- Strong lips - reds will be huge . You can go for matte here if you want, but if you can't bear to part from your gloss luckily that's in too.
- Smokey eyes and strong liner. Vamp it up for night if you like with all the gorgeous jewel eyeshadow colours we've been previewing and treat yourself to a new palette. Ah g'wan, you deserve it. Also very hot for night time are false eyelashes.
- Short square nails in loud colours (either dark or v bright are good) are in in in.
So to recap.
Mess it up. Smudge up those eyes. Paint your nails. Look pretty. Feel gorgeous. Accessorise with leaves if you feel you must.
And if you're worried that you're not in? Don't worry. Sure it'll all be back next season.
