Cream Blusher

aunt sallyI used to be really suspicious of cream blushers because I just couldn't see how they'd work on top of makeup without making you look like Aunt Sally from Worzel Gummidge. I reckoned it would just sit in a fake looking circle, and no way would you be able to blend a cream shadow in without wiping all your foundation off or smearing it all over the place.

How wrong I was.

I cracked 8 or 9 months ago and bought myself a Clinique Blushwear cream blusher in 07 Sweet Blush which is a deep dusky pink. And it is fab. The first time I tried it I was hooked, lined and sinkered. It blends like a dream, even over powder, and it's really easy to work up and be precise with. In fact it's much easier to use than a standard powder blush, and it really lasts. I used it exclusively for months and it was only with the advent of Autumn and peach blush being de rigeur that I bought a new one - and this time I did go for a powder one because I couldn't find a cream one that was bright enough.

The only downside of it is the GROSS PACKAGING! Yuck, gross green marbled plastic - completely gick. Thankfully Clinique must have been listening to my silent prayers because they recently did change their packaging and now it's all chunky clear plastic and chrome. Much better. A Blushwear blusher will set you back about €20ish (can't remember the exact price, sorry!) and it'll last for ages. I've barely made a dent in mine.

If you fancy trying a cream blusher out but don't want to fork out for something you're not sure you'll like, you could try a cheaper brand first. Rimmel's Soft Cream Blush is a cream to powder texture blush that builds from sheer to full coverage if you want it to. Or you could give Maybelline's Dream Mousse Blush a whirl. It's like their Dream Matte Mousse foundation in that it's really light and air-whipped, so it glides on. Both of these are very purse friendly and come in under a tenner.

Edit - I wrote this last night, and on the bus this morning I see Now have a little item on cream blushers too. Ah brilliant minds and all that!
