Why I never skip exfoliator

Exfoliator doesn't feature in everyone's skincare regimens. It should. Here's why I never skip it.

We always hear how important is it to have a good skincare routine. Whether it's vast or minimal, finding one that suits you, your daily needs and issues that work for your skin and is achievable are vital.

The whole thing can be a bit overwhelming with so many steps to take into account like cleansers, toners, moisturisers, exfoliators, serums, peptides, retinol, masks etc. The list goes on.

But do we need the lot? Or can we narrow it down to the minimal?

In my experience, the one thing I can never skip is an exfoliator. I feel this goes for most skin types as exfoliating your skin when it's normal, dry or oily will only help. Here are five reasons why never skip it.

It makes your skin smoother

When you exfoliate, you remove all the dead skin cells that sit on the top layer of your face. Your skin will be a lot softer to the touch and your makeup will go on and stay put a lot longer.

It helps reduce the signs of ageing

Yes, you read that right. By helping the skin remove dead skin cells you are speeding up the natural renewal process and making the skin work harder to rejuvenate. It's like your metabolism; the more you use it the better it works.

It can stop breakouts

When we get breakouts, it's usually because your pores are blocked and there is dirt in them. When we exfoliate, we clean out all dirt in the pores which firstly minimizes your pores and secondly stops the breakouts.

It's good for skin tone

Exfoliation brings new healthier skin cells to the surface. The younger cells hold water better and allow moisture to penetrate better leaving your skin looking and feeling great.

It helps your skincare products work better

By removing dead skin cells on the skin surface, it helps your skincare products penetrate at a deeper level. By stimulating cell turnover, you can be guaranteed that the serum or moisturiser you apply on top will do the job you bought it for.

What part of your skincare routine would you never skip?
