It never rains in Hollywood, or does it?

I'd say most of us are well used to the threat of an evening downpour putting paid to all the hard work that goes into outfit, hair and makeup for a big night out, but it's not something you imagine your average Hollywood star having to worry about. Until it rains on the red carpet at the Golden Globes, that is.

Imagine the horror - you're Diane Kruger, you've just had your hair styled, your makeup expertly applied and you're wearing your floofiest pink Christian Lacroix and then the heavens open! What's a girl to do? Well luckily for Diane, the lovely Joshua Jackson was on hand with the golf umbrella to keep her hair from frizzing and her mascara from running. And I bet he didn't ram the spokes into the eyes of any unsuspecting passers-by, unlike some of the golf umbrella brigade on the streets of Dublin.

Some independent women like Cameron Diaz (whose red dress and red lipstick coordinated nicely with her red and white umbrella) and Ginnifer Goodwin held their own umbrellas, while Paul McCartney (well he'd be used to the odd drop of rain where he's from), David Arquette and David Duchovny expertly wielded theirs to protect their other halves dresses (or, in Tea Leoni's case, her dress shirt) and 'dos from ruination.

And of course for anyone too busy posing for the cameras to hold an umbrella, there were plenty of red carpet minions to do it for them (hence the very many slightly hilarious shots of starlets posing, surrounded by bright lights, while a random arm with umbrella attached intrudes into the shot from stage left).
