Double Cleansing: Necessary or a waste of time?

At this stage, you must have heard that double cleansing is all the rage. But is double cleansing worth the extra few minutes scrubbing?

In short; absolutely, yes. Cleansing is probably the most important part of your skincare regimen. A clean skin is an oxygenated skin. This means that oxygen, which is essential to a healthy skin is flowing through all your capillaries and flooding the skin. The skin is the largest organ in your body and without proper cleansing, you are starving it of oxygen. A dirty skin is an asphyxiated skin. That sounds extreme but it's true.

A double cleanse entails a pre-cleanse which will remove heavy face and eye makeup. I used to use just a micellar water to remove my makeup. At a glance, your skin might look clean after this first step. If you look more closely you will usually find traces of mascara and foundation. If you use a second cleansing product with cotton pads I guarantee you will find more makeup traces.

When you cleanse your skin properly you will remove all dirt, makeup, pollution and other harmful environmental factors picked up throughout the day. Cleansing leaves your pores clear, able to absorb your expensive skincare products so that they can work effectively. The physical process of cleansing your skin will improve blood circulation to the surface of your skin to allow for maximum oxygenation.

A double cleanse is certainly more time consuming than your usual swipe of some micellar water. But we urge you do do it at least a couple of times a week. If you want a quick double cleanse routine, you can start off by removing heavy makeup with a Cleanse Off Mitt and follow with a face wash. We love Skinician Pro-Radiance Enzyme Cleanser; it uses enzyme therapy to remove dead skin cells so it is naturally exfoliating. You can get it from salons nationwide.
