Sneak Peek: Rock On with Jo Malone London

The Rock the Ages collection from Jo Malone London hits counters next month and continues the brand’s move from the classic cream and black uniform towards more unique packaging.

It’s a lovely collection of five 30ml colognes, and each one celebrates an era of British history: Tudor, Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian and Contemporary.

The bottles are very pretty and each has a swatch of fabric on the lid which captures the era and the personality of each fragrance.

For the Tudor era there’s Tudor Rose & Amber with notes of rose absolut, clove and ginger and warm amber. It’s a warm rich fragrance and the lid is wrapped in red velvet. Very Henry VIII!

Next up is Georgian London and Lily of the Valley & Ivy, all posh politeness, illustrated with a floral-embossed ribbon. There’s notes of sparkling cassis and green ivy, a heart of lily of the valley and narcissus.

The Victorian Era’s drama is echoed in the brand’s much-loved Pomegranate Noir, wrapped in gold for the occasion. It’s one of my favourite Jo Malone London scents and is heady and rich with notes of pomegranate, lily, pink pepper and guaiacwood.

Geranium & Verbena is the choice for the Edwardian era. A clean, herbaceous scent it has notes of verbena, basil geranium and vetivier and has a rather elegant swatch of black and white on the lid to conjure up images of garden parties and Champagne on the lawn.

Finally, to illustrate the contemporary era there’s Birch & Black Pepper, which has more than a slight nod to punk and Vivienne Westwood (the lid sports a wrap of black leather). It’s a contrasting scent, with black pepper and cardamom, smoky birch, magnetic ink and gurjim.

I got to have a play with Pomegranate Noir and Tudor Rose and Amber but on the day, I think my favourite was the unexpected Birch & Black Pepper. The fragrances are €52 each and are available at Jo Malone London counters now.
