New mum lists 20 things every woman who has given birth will relate to

Some things you expect when you're a new mum, others you certainly do not, because no one told you about them.

Blogger Bekki Pope took to Facebook a couple of week's ago to list "20 things to know when you've just pushed out a baby", and for someone who hasn't had a baby, it's eye-opening and so refreshingly honest, and pretty hilarious. And, to be honest, I feel a bit sick. However, if I was a new mum myself, I know I'd be viciously nodding my head in agreement.

The post has been liked over 100,000 times and shared over 45,000 times and it's easy to see why people have responded so strongly. Bekki lays the post-labour business out there in all its messy, uncomfortable glory, prompting other new mums to tell their (perfectly natural) horror stories.

Women who have had babies will relate, women who are thinking about it may want to think again. Just kidding! Hopefully, this will spark a turn in the way people view the time just after the baby is born. All the focus and attention goes to the bub, but it's not all over for his or her mama.

Of course, every woman who gives birth will go through a unique experience, during and after. But as Bekki says, “There is no such thing as normal, and there is no such thing as perfect. You are your baby’s normal. You are your baby’s perfect.” Quite right.
