Who's your favourite Irish comedian? Rate the stand ups who make you howl!

Summer is the season of comedy festivals, and the perfect opportunity to get more acquainted with our favourite Irish stand up comedians. We already know that there's a lot of love for our homegrown comedy talent here on Beaut.ie, what with David O'Doherty, Dylan Moran and Tommy Tiernan making appearances in this year's Fifty Fine Things, not to mention Dara O'Briain storming into the No. 13 spot on said list. But enough about whose pants you want to get into the most, who makes you laugh the most?

Dylan Moran's dour, seemingly half-cut persona makes for fantastic comedy viewing, in both his stand up shows and the fantastic Black Books. Maeve Higgins is tremendous fun on Twitter, her stand-up is dry wit and self-deprecation at its Irish best and Fancy Vittles managed to be cute, edgy and hilarious all at the same time. Dara O'Briain has been cracking us up ever since he was the young upstart team captain on Don't Feed The Gondolas and The Panel was the best and funniest show on Irish television until he left for bigger and brighter BBC-related things. Tommy Tiernan, Irish comedy's wild man from the Wesht consistently sells out venues and has audiences in stitches with his energetic observations and somewhat mystical mania.

Personally, my absolute favourite Irish comedian is David O'Doherty. His lo-fi whimsy, tiny plastic keyboard-accompanied songs and meandering stories are a joy to behold and he does a dynamite Shakira impression to boot. Last year, in a departure from songs about very mild superpowers, he performed a one man show called Rory Sheridan's Tales of the Antarctica, where he played an explorer who wasn't particularly good at it and who went on his polar quest to impress a girl. It was hysterically funny, as well as sweet and touching too. Going from The Modest Adventures of David O'Doherty to guest hosting Never Mind The Buzzcocks, he's been brilliant to watch
over the years and is one of the few comedians that I get genuinely excited about when I see them on panel shows.

So who's your favourite Irish comedian? Does Neil Delamere do it for you?  Can't get enough of PJ Gallagher? Or does Eleanor Tiernan float your comedy boat?
