Hyaluronic acid is a brilliant skincare ingredient and you'll find it in skincare designed for dehydrated and dry skin. It's a great antiaging ingredient as it can hold up to one thousand times its own weight in water and genuinely makes skincare more effective. There are some brilliant forms of topical hyaluronic acid - our favourite is Hydraluron Serum, which, when applied under a water-rich moisturiser (it's useless under oils), palpably increases its efficacy.

Still though, topical products like serums and moisturisers can only be absorbed into the top 0.5mm of the skin. Some of us might need help that goes deeper than that though and even though hyaluronic acid supplements in capsule form already exist it's notoriously difficult for the body to absorb HA.

Fountain's Hyaluronic Acid supplement is the first supplement in liquid form which has an extremely high concentration of hyaluronic acid and contains ginger to aid absorption.

It's definitely strange -the gel consistency makes it seem more like something you'd apply to your skin than drink. The recommended dose is two teaspoons daily, but if you're disturbed by the unusual texture, you can mix it into some juice. It has a light ginger flavour which is actually very pleasing - not overpowering at all.

I haven't been using this for long enough to give a decisive verdict yet, but I have noticed that when I caught a bad cold recently, and my skin became dehydrated (as it usually does), it rallied back to its usual fettle much more quickly than it has in the past.

Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the skin (and levels decrease with age) but it's also present in our joints as a cushion. I have osteoarthritis in my knee - so this supplement certainly won't hurt! I'm hoping it will help.

Fountain the Hyaluronic Molecule is available at Boots. It costs €34.99 for 240mls which is a three week supply.  There's also another version available (the red one) with resveratrol

Do you take skincare supplements? And can you see yourself trying this one?
