You may or may not like your skincare enriched with placental cells, but it's a fact that high end and cosmaceutical products do use it. One such brand is Cypriot company Plazan, who use human cells sourced in Russia, as well as animal cells from pigs in their product range.

But why placenta? Well, it helps grow a baby for nine months after all - and after that baby is born, it's still hugely rich in nutrients. Because placenta is human tissue, you're far less likely to experience problems or reactions while using cosmetics containing it as they're made with elements that are the same as our own biological structure.

J Lo is a fan, no less, and those with stars in their eyes will now be glad to know that Plazan is now available in Ireland for us mere mortals to try. La Lopez herself is said to be particularly fond of the anti-wrinkle Placenta Collagen Mask, which looks eye-wateringly reminiscent of a science experiment. But the proof really is in the pudding - she looks amazing. The Collagen Mask contains "natural placenta collagen fibers using a special technology that preserves intact the natural structure of the collagen used".

Anyone can use this, regardless of skin type, but it's particularly recommended for aging and tired skin. Like a radiance booster, you can use it before big nights out to immediately perk up your complexion, or for better results, Plazan recommend you follow a course of treatments.

The mask costs €120 from plazan.ie
