Gargamel! Top 10 Cartoon Villains From the '80s and '90s
By Beaut  | May 22, 2015

Looking back, cartoon villains from yesteryear really went full-on and warped some of us in later life.

Do you find yourself looking sideways at anyone with a moustache? That's probably because of Miles Mayhem from M.A.S.K. or Murky Dismal from Rainbow Brite.

Here now, our ten most villainous villains from 80's and 90's cartoons.

10. DR. BLIGHT from Captain Planet & The Planeteers

Ice-queen blonde? Check. Super-smart and takes no crap off of anyone? Check. Dr. Blight from Captain Planet was the hallmark when it comes to villainous females. She also had that fringe that covered half her face and the scar underneath. Random trivia - the character was originally voiced by Meg Ryan. Can you imagine Meg Ryan being a villain? GASP.

9. CYRIL SNEER from The Racoons

It never once dawned on us that Cyril Sneer's nose looked like a penis with a lot of foreskin. Now it's all we can see.

8. MEGATRON from Transformers

Seriously, how terrifying was Megatron's voice in the original Transformers? And the way he used to always beat the crap out of Starscream? Horrifying. Just horrifying.

7. RITA REPULSA from Power Rangers

Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa were the JR and Sue Ellen of 90's kids shows. They hated each other, they loved each other, they were the original power couple. But Rita's fashion-forward outfits are what placed her out ahead of Lord Zedd. Sure, he was swole and whatever, but Rita also had her squad with her.

6. GARGAMEL from The Smurfs

Looking back, there was so much WRONG in The Smurfs that we didn't even realise it at the time. First off, the gender disparity amongst the Smurfs was just wrong. One Smurfette to an entire town? Disgraceful. The fact that Gargamel wanted to turn The Smurfs into gold tells us that the Smurfs is actually a socialist tale of workers and the ruling classes' attempt to subvert their power. Or are we reading into this way too much?

5. SHELDON JAMES PLANKTON from Spongebob Squarepants

Plankton was a responsible business owner who just trying to level the playing field with his competitor. Also, fair play to Karen, his computer wife, for sticking by him and his failing business.

4. KRANG from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

He was a talking brain. A TALKING BRAIN WITH TENTACLES. THAT LIVED IN A HUGE ROBOT'S STOMACH.

3. MOJO JOJO from Powerpuff Girls

CURSES.

2. MUMM-RA from Thundercats

The fact that Mumm-Ra could always change into someone else freaked us the hell out. Also, those weird red eyes had a lot to do with it as well.

1. SKELETOR from He-Man: Masters of the Universe and She-Ra: Princess of Power

For someone that had the head of a skeleton, Skeletor was seriously built. It's weird that his voice didn't necessarily match either, but Skeletor was still pretty damn scary.

Which cartoon villain used to live under your bed? And will we band together to become the real life Beaut style Powerpuff Girls?
