Popcorn and cinemas go together intrinsically.

While the price of cinema tickets may vary from cinema to cinema and from film to film, popcorn's a constant throughout. Or is it? We surveyed fifteen cinemas across Ireland, from Bundoran, Co. Donegal to Galway City and parts between, to find out how much a regular-sized bag of popcorn costs.

We anonymously called eighteen cinemas across the country - two didn't answer, one wouldn't give out the information over the phone - and the results were surprising to say the least.

All calculated, the average price across the cinemas we surveyed is €4.37. However, the prices vary hugely depending on location. Not only that, the individual size of each popcorn bag wasn't investigated. We simply called each cinema, asked them how much a regular / medium-sized bag of popcorn was and noted the price.

In all cases, each cinema pointed out that it was cheaper to buy the popcorn with a drink or with a larger size.

The most expensive bag of popcorn in our survey was tied between Cineworld on Parnell St. and Odeon Cinema - both of which were €5.90. The second most expensive bag of popcorn in our survey was Showtime Cinemas on the Ennis Road in Limerick, which cost €5.80. Next on the list was Movies At Dundrum and Movies At Swords, both of which charged €5.75.
