It will go down as one of the most watched documentaries of all time, and now it's been confirmed by Netflix that there is more of Steven Avery's story on the way.

The streaming service just announced the news today that new episodes of Making a Murderer are in production that will focus on Steven Avery’s post-conviction process.

The filmmakers behind the documentary series, Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, said; "We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of, the series. The viewers’ interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold."

While Lisa Nishimura, Netflix VP of Original Documentary Programming said; "Because of Ricciardi’s and Demos’ incredible vision, commitment and keen eye, audiences around the globe became completely captivated by the personal stories of Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey and the unique lens their experiences provide into the criminal justice system. We’re thrilled to be continuing our longstanding relationship with the filmmakers, and look forward to giving our global viewers eagerly anticipated updates on this story."

The first ten-episode season of Making a Murderer was released just ahead of Christmas last year and was pretty much all people were talking about over the festive period. It was recently nominated for six Emmy Awards too, including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series.

This next chapter will provide an in-depth look at the high-stakes post-conviction process, as well as, the emotional toll the process takes on all involved. The episodes will offer exclusive access to Avery’s new lawyer Kathleen Zellner and Dassey’s legal team, led by Laura Nirider and Steve Drizin, as well as intimate access to the families and characters close to the case.

While the new episodes are already in production, there is no word on when we can see them yet, but we'd take a guess that they will release it around December again.
