Top Five Fashion Moments of 2014

Top Five Fashion Moments of 2014
By Beaut.ie  | Jan 21, 2015

We might still be reminiscing from 2014 just a little, but there's no better way to shape up for a whole new set of fashion moments than a quick reflection on those times past. We could sit here and have a very long conversation on what, who, how and when the best fashion times occurred last year, but we've rounded up what we think are those which sparked, well, discussion.

Some of them were good, some were remarkable and some were just...well they broke the internet (I know, but it was a moment ok? More of that a bit later). Whether it was a red carpet look, a cover of a magazine or just a publicity stunt, may we present those momentous occasions when we bowed to the Gods of the catwalk, paid homage to the seamstresses who hand bead gowns and took to twitter to demonstrate our shock.

In an order that is absolutely, no questions asked, undisputedly, random...

  • Yer Won Who Broke The Internet

Yep, it's KK. She broke the internet, and maybe we commonfolk too. THAT shoot from THAT magazine with THAT shot. Need we say more? Well, yes, we have opinions. Kim, in all fairness was the most talked about person of 2014 and the now infamous photoshoot from Paper Magazine really did break the internet.

As to whether KK's shoot constitutes a fashion moment, we might have a debate on our hands. But, it had we fashionistas talking. What on Earth will she do next? You should check out the Wonderland Magazine shoot from the January issue...

  • Angelina and the Tux

One of my personal favourite moments from last year was Angelina Jolie's tux at the BAFTAs in February. No gown, no fancy hair do. Just a simple black suit, those flowing locks and her incredible self.

I happened to be in London that night and woke up the following day to a deluge of press coverage of her "alternative" red carpet look. I was always on Jen's side, but this really made me re-think. Fair play Ange. You win.

  • A Style Star is Born

Several award wins and amazing gowns later, Lupita Nyong'o was one of my favourite fashionistas of 2014. Awards season launched her into the international fashion spotlight having worn jaw-droppingly gorgeous gowns by Ralph Lauren and Prada. But this was just the beginning.

Quickly followed campaigns with Lancôme and Miu Miu and a few front rows at Paris Fashion Week. And not to mention that amazing outfit from the Met Ball! So who will take over the style crown for the 2015 awards season...I reckon it's Felicity Jones. Just sayin'.

  • The Year High Street Won

We love our high street here at Beaut.ie, and so that's worthy of mentioning some of the most noted times for our favourite retailers. H&M and Alexander Wang was a personal highlight for me (especially since I was involved in the Irish launch), the invasion of the cape, the over the knee boot brigade, the opening of Cos in Ireland and many more.

And don't worry, we'll make plenty more fashion worthy moments in 2015 with our favourite brands!

  • Man from Bray Sings at Fashion Show

He may be a singer, and it may be the world's greatest lingerie show, but this was THE fashion moment of them all. The lovely Hozier just happened to be asked to sing at the Victoria Secret fashion show in its 2014 home of London. Karlie, Alassandra, Jourdan, Gigi and plenty more supermodels strutted down the catwalk to the 2014 anthem "Take Me to Church". He looked like he enjoyed it didn't he? Aw.

We could stay here for hours talking about Rihanna in the sparkly non-existent dress, Amal Clooney in the white Valli jumpsuit, the Chanel feminist movement, Dolce and Gabbana getting into a spot of bother with the tax man and many many more. But, we wanna know yours? Did you have a favourite fashion moment from 2014? Let's take it to the comments!
