YSL The Holographics: The '80s are acceptable once again

The YSL The Holographics collection is a total throwback to the 1980s. If you are in your thirties, it's going to remind you of your mum

At first glance, the YSL The Holographics collection is simply slick. This is makeup for makeup lovers. It has gorgeous gold and black packaging in the signature style of YSL. The collection comprises of lip lacquers, eye pencils and nail polishes and lots and lots of sparkle. It's a colourful collection, and there's not a product in it that doesn't have at least a hint of shimmer running through it.

YSL Vernis a Levres The Holographics full collection

This collection is breaking all the rules. Considering it's coming out in May, it's refreshingly different. Not all of us want to switch to tinted moisturiser, tinted lip balm and a light tinted cream blush on our cheeks for summer. Lots of us are makeup junkies, and we love our makeup. No matter what the season we want to wear full makeup in all its colourful glory for a night out.

The collection is full of colour - deep colours and bright colours - basically, there is something for everyone. There are eight Electric Colour lip shades, four Dessin du Regard waterproof eyeliners, and two La Lacque Couture nail polishes in the collection.

The Electric Colour lip lacquers are glosses that stain your lips for longevity. They all have a gorgeous fine holo-pearl glitter through them. When I swatched these, they brought me back to my childhood. I remember playing with my mother's makeup, and all her lipsticks and lipglosses had that fine blue glitter in them. The Rose Glitch is a pale pink gloss with holographic blue glitter throughout. The idea with these is to give you a whole new dimension to your lips. The high shine gloss with the glitter creates a play of light to give you 'maximum voltage colour-payoff.'

If you like something a bit adventurous, you can use either the holographic white top coat or the holographic black to instantly change up any lip colour. The black one makes a red lip colour more burgundy and interesting looking. The white would be my personal choice, though. Add it to the centre of your lips over any lip colour at all, and it makes your lips look glass-like and plump.

The eyeliners don't disappoint in the glitter stakes, either. They have a fine glitter through them, and you can use them to create a smokey eye if you scribble them on your lid and buff them out quickly. They dry down to a waterproof finish so they will stay in place all night.

Finally, the nail polishes are opaque black with glitter or clear white with glitter through it. I love black in summer. While everyone else is wearing white, I love to mix it up and wear all black. This nail varnish is certainly not one you would normally see in summer, but it's really cool. The white one is a handy polish to have to add a shimmer to any regular colour.

The collection will be available nationwide from May 1st. We are dying to know your thoughts on this edgy collection. Are you excited to try it or do you think the '80s should be left in the last century?
