How To: Art Deco Inspired Nail Art

All things Art Deco are Having A Serious Moment, thanks in no small part to the imminent release of Baz Luhrmann's take on The Great Gatsby. Beauty releases have been harking back to the era for a while now – just think of James Read's tanning range, the festive line-ups from Art Deco, Clarins, and Dior, and recent No. 7 releases.

The easiest (and cheapest) way to get the look is with a touch of Art Deco style nail art. Scalloped tips are super popular among the online nail art community with good reason: they're simple to do yet very eye-catching.

Products used
Sally Hansen Complete Care (as base coat)
Essence Nude Glam Cookies & Cream
Topshop Crystal Clouds (Angelica The Midas Touch is a dead ringer for this)
Nubar Noir
Seche Vite top coat

  1. Gather your supplies, prep nails, and paint with your chosen base colour. Remove excess nail polish from your brush by swirling it around the neck of the bottle, leaving just a bead of polish on the end of the brush.
  2. Apply 3 strokes of polish side by side to create the tiered "arches" that will form the border of the pattern.
  3. Repeat with the darker polish.
  4. Finish with top coat and you're all done!
