Can't Get Over That Ex? Match.com Will Find Their Doppelgänger for $5000 (and Johnny Depp Rejoices)

Since man first looked up at the stars, he has dreamed of one day having a computer algorithm tell him what his type is and seek out those who match the description with as little effort as possible.

Dating has changed since the good old days of inviting the person that you’ve taken a fancy to for a soda pop and a tram ride to the seafront for a casual iced cream, and what with all this fancy technology we can now live the dream of choosing the people that we want to date based on their Facebook profile picture.

Not only that, but the latest technological leap means that users of Match.com will be able to find a partner who looks like their ex. You know, the one that they’re not over at all yet and still have a small shrine to in their bedroom wardrobe?

Partnering with Three Day Rule, a company based in Los Angeles that does facial recognition software, Match are able to find the common traits in your ex’s face and then search their database for similar-looking partners. However, there are a few things to consider here.

Firstly, Talia Goldstein, CEO of Three Day Rule told Mashable that the key is facial structure, so while you may have several exes who

may be different ethnicities, or have different hair color…their facial structures are the same

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what they’re scanning for - what you may end up with is more of a vague similarity rather than a doppelgänger.

Secondly, the cost is pretty high: you’d have to fork over $5000 (€3667) for a six-month premium service with Three Day Rule and Match, so it’s probably aimed at the absolute elite who are too busy saving lives or investing in the stock market to find a date. Those people are always tons of fun.

Of course, we should also point out that you’re broken up with your ex for a good reason, but don’t let that stop you from finding someone who looks really like them and will remind you of them on a constant basis, that won’t be awkward at all…

Mind you, 'twould be dead handy for Johnny Depp when he is looking for the next girlfriend that looks exactly the same as all the previous incarnations.

Sure, you may as well just make your new partner out of pipe cleaners and some, eh, cotton balls.

What do you reckon about this new type of internet dating? Would you be tempted to give it a go to rummage together a doppelgänger of your ex? Or is this just plain, well, odd? To the comments!
