How to create a winter flush without leaving the house

By all accounts, come 2017 contouring will be a thing of the past. The next big thing will be a glorious natural flush.

Don't worry; you don't have to go out any buy new products, you can use one of your favourite lipsticks for the effect. While you're at it, you can also use that same lipstick for your lips and as an eyeshadow base.

Ah, multi-use products; you've got to love them! Just because a product is marketed a certain way doesn't mean it has to be used only in that area.

For this specific purpose, it's best to use a sheer lipstick formula and not a matte or semi-matte. My personal favourite is Sandy B by MAC.

Sandy B

This has a pinkish peach undertone with gold highlights and is perfect for an all round skin flush. It's also a frost finish, so it's lightweight enough to be used as a blusher and eyeshadow base.

  • What to do

After you have applied your foundation (do not set with powder) take your lipstick of choice and rub it on the back of your hand as if you were trying out the colour. But you want to get a good bit of it on your hand, so press relatively hard. The heat of your hand will warm up your lipstick so that it can be applied to your skin evenly. If you're cold or the lipstick isn't melting properly use a hairdryer to help you melt it a bit.

Next, either use your finger or stipple brush to apply to your face.

Smile, and apply your lipstick to the apples of your cheeks, going back towards the top of your ear. If you remember a "Nike tick" shape, you can't go wrong. Make sure you blend it well; no obvious lines - the product should look seamless.

You can also apply the product to your eyelids as a base or eyeshadow at this point.

Next, take your powder and set your foundation and blusher.

You can add your normal eyeshadow to your lids on top of your lipstick once it's been set. Or you can leave it as is to keep the same colour tone as your blusher.

Then apply your chosen lipstick to your lips to finish. If you are still confused here is a quick video to show you.
