Product of the Week: Superstar Retinol Night Oil by Pestle & Mortar

The Superstar Retinol Night Oil is our product of the week. Hooray for Pestle & Mortar who continue to fly the flag for Irish skincare.

Superstar Retinol Night Oil by Pestle & Mortar is designed to minimise pores, improve the tone and texture of skin, and so much more. After two months of testing it out, has it been given must-have status?

Superstar is the fourth product I've reviewed from the Pestle & Mortar skincare line (you can check out my previous reviews here). At €76 for 30ml, it's also the most expensive. The good news is, you get a whole lotta bang for your buck.

In terms of the look, it has a sleek and elegant design. And while that looks great, it's not just for show. The packaging is airtight and opaque to keep the product from becoming damaged by sunlight. The pump dispenser allows for easy use and no spills.

The formula is jam-packed with the highest quality organic, steam distilled and cold pressed ingredients to nourish skin (the comprehensive list is available here). Also included are two type of retinoid which help to refine fine lines and reduce pore size.  And, by the by, they are the ingredients that prompted skincare guru Caroline Hirons to say that Superstar is the "best retinol I've used outside of a prescription". High praise indeed!

So, we know that Superstar Retinol Night Oil is made from quality ingredients, but what about results and application? Well, application is easy. One small pump is all you need, gently massaged into skin at night. There's no discernible fragrance, and the formula melts into skin easily. Use SPF during the day (obviously) and if you need it, night cream in the evening.

In terms of results, this does do what it promises. Over time, pore size is reduced, fine lines soften and overall, the tone and texture of skin is greatly improved. Does it deserve must-have status? Yes, I think so.

Who should invest: If you're mid-thirties and over, and feel your skin needs a boost. Vitamin A is especially good for those who worry about a lacklustre complexion, smokers and those who can't get enough sleep.
