These are the two most popular smokey eye looks

A smokey eye, you say. Which kind, your makeup artist will answer. These are the two most popular smokey eye looks you can go for.

There are so many versions of 'the smokey eye'. Everybody's idea of a smokey eye is slightly different. So, what you might call a smokey eye could be somebody else's idea of a natural eye makeup look. Or vice versa; you might like a dramatic smokey eye that another might think is crazy panda eyes. It's all in the eye of the beholder. If you're planning on having your makeup done by a pro you need pictures to show what your kinda smokey eye looks like. On the other hand, you could ask for one of the two most popular smokey eye looks.

In short, we like to call them 'the light to dark' and the 'dark all over smoked out from the lid'. These descriptions should give your makeup artist a good idea of what you're looking for. IF you want to expand on the description to make sure you get exactly what you came for, we'll explain them a little bit more in depth.

The 'light to dark' smokey eye

This smokey eye look is ideal if you want to make your eyes look bigger and you don't like the look to be too dark. It can be done in any colours you like. The same idea will always apply. Generally, there will be a transition colour in the crease, a dark matte eyeshadow on the outer edge of your eye and then a light shimmer colour on the lid. You could go for pink shimmer on the lid and a deep plum or purple for your smokey edges. On the other hand, you could go for classic gold on the lid and dark brown to smoke out the edges.

The 'dark all over the lid smoked out' look

This look means there is no light colour transitioning to dark at the edges. This look will have the eyeshadow the darkest near the lash line and on the eyelid. Then, it diffuses out to get lighter at the crease. It's the classic 'smokey' effect. It's made to have the same effect as billowing smoke. Darkest at its core and getting lighter at the edges as it fades out into nothing.
