You may have read about the arrival of High Definition TV - HDTV. I've read two articles recently about this 'phenomena' - one in this months U and one in Grazia. If you've a HD ready LCD TV, then you're capable of receiving broadcasts in sharp, amazing contrast. It's not terribly likely that RTE are going to roll out a HD service any time soon I shouldn't imagine but you can get HD DVD players now, and HD TV is going to become more and more common as TV channels begin to broadcast in this medium - Sky are already broadcasting in HD.
But what's all that got to do with makeup? Aha, well, by virtue of the fact that HD pictures will be so sharp and clear that we'll get to see the stars as they never intended us to - bags, lines and wrinkles all. Eh, so like, looking like they would if you met them on the street. How shocking! The poor stars! Their poor egos! Never mind, their massive salaries can console them.
Not to get too far off the point, HDTV, with all its flaw showing ways, is going to mean better makeup! And it won't just be for the stars, it'll be for us too. YAY! Clinique are already on the case with their Clinique CX range, which is an advanced range of concealing and skincare goodies. It looks like we'll also be seeing more airbrush foundation applications too because the airbrush method gives such flawless coverage. SK II launched their Air Touch Foundation last year to widespread acclaim. It's expensive though, so hopefully innovations like this will trickle down to more affordable brands, and we can all partake of the flaw covering goodness.

Mineral makeup is popular also with makeup artists working in the medium as it gives a fine, flawless coverage that is capable of covering all manner of sins like blemishes and redness. High street brands like L'Oreal and Neutrogena are finally getting in on the mineral game pioneered by brands like Jane Iredale and Bare Esenctuals, and we as consumers should start seeing affordable mineral formulations in the shops pretty soon.
