Eye Creams For All Budgets: Five To Try from Clinique, NUXE, Chanel, NARS and Vichy

Top five eye creams

I've used a daily eye cream since I was about 18; it's the one skincare tip that was handed down to me by the elder women in my family, and it stuck. Keeping the delicate skin around the eyes nourished and moisturised, without overloading it, means less fine lines and wrinkles - it's that simple. A good eye cream can also help with puffiness and dark circles, and with a bit of research you'll find one to suit all budgets. These five are a good place to start.

Clinique Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector

Clinique Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector

My main under-eye concern isn’t puffiness or fine lines (though I do have a couple of those), but dark circles – another thing handed down by the elder women in my family, which quite possibly explains their obsession with eye creams! This stuff  doesn’t promise to banish them, but to reduce them by up to 30%, which seems a bit more achievable. It takes 12 weeks to see the permanent effects, but in the meantime I’ve been appreciating the soothing coldness of the applicator on tired eyes, as well as the hydrating, plumping effect on my skin.  The product also has a slight tint which has a concealing effect. It’s €38 and there’s a bit more info here.

NUXE eye cream

NUXE Contour des Yeux Prodigeux

Suitable for women of all ages, the Crème Prodigieuse range is the product of 10 years of research on anti-oxidation and meets two fundamental skin care needs: daily anti-fatigue and moisturising action, combined with antioxidant protection against free radicals. The eye cream tackles puffiness, dark circles and fine lines and contains hyaluronic acid, one of the superstar ingredients we told you about here.  It has a lovely texture and at €18.50 the price is right - I was given one when it launched last year, and have bought it again since.

Chanel Sublimage La Crème Yeux

So I did say ‘all budgets’ at the start of this post and this one here is pitched firmly at the highest end of the scale. At €140 it’s mad money and when I found out the price – mine was a press sample - I was hesitant about including it here. But it really brightens up the under eye area, and is my favourite of the five I’ve featured here. It also targets fines lines and wrinkles, plumps up the skin and works to restore its natural firmness. If you really love luxury skincare, this might be one to ask Santy for when Christmas rolls around. Yes, I said the C word – blame it on a recent visit to the Brown Thomas Christmas shop, which is in full swing.

NARS Total Replenishing Eye Cream

NARS Total Replenishing Eye Cream

Part of NARS new skincare line – check out this post for the deets – this is a lovely lightweight cream that absorbs quickly and has a nice, refreshing texture. A light reflecting formula lightens and brightens the eye area and it’s formulated with beech bud extract, to boost collagen production and reduce puffiness. My one quibble? It’s kinda hard to squeeze the product from the tube – and for €52, you’re gonna want to get right to the very last drop.

 Vichy LiftActiv Yeux

Vichy LiftActiv Yeux

This is another one that promises to boost collagen in the skin – this time it’s due to the anti-aging ingredient rhamnose, that we told you all about here. There are some very impressive studies around this ingredient, showing a 20% improvement on five types of wrinkles over a two month period, so this is a brilliant pick if you’re concerned about lines and wrinkles around the eyes. We’ve been really impressed – check out our full review here – and at €25.50 the price should suit most pockets.
