Mostly rain, risk of showers developing into pissing down: Irish Style Icon #1 Jean Byrne

Here at Beaut.ie, we appreciate style. And if it’s Irish style, then so much the better. So we’ll be taking a look at some Irish Style Icons, and who better to kick off proceedings than RTE’s very own meteorology maven, Jean Byrne.

The news can be a depressing watch, and let’s face it, for the most part of the year the weather forecast is too. As such, this makes Jean all the more perfectly placed to brighten up our evenings by telling us how much it’s going to rain while looking like Anjelica Huston’s leather-and-lace-addicted younger sister on her way to a screening of The Craft.

Her now-infamous silver Joanne Hynes dress has become the stuff of legend since the day she delivered the weather forecast in the shiny, slinky number. The nation was enthralled by her, while considering the possibility that she was actually a sexy alien queen who had crash landed in Donnybrook and was somehow using isobars as a crafty means of taking over the world. That may have just been me though.

And who can forget the time she scandalised viewers with a slashed dress that appeared to have a clear and present threat of nipple? It’s a wonder Bryan Dobson didn’t succumb to a sex faint in the studio. Of course, all that was actually being revealed was the nude-coloured fabric underneath, the saucy minx.

When it comes to social occasions, you can bet your giant spiky statement jewellery that Jean isn’t one for the usual Debs dress fare that we see all too often at Irish showbiz parties. She previously blew all the orange-tinted dollybirds out of the water with blue sequins and shoulder pads that would take Lady Gaga’s eye out, further cementing her status as Ireland’s edgy intergalactically-inclined weather forecaster.

Not only does Jean provide sartorial excitement of an evening on RTE, she genuinely kicks ass at her job, having been the first Irish presenter to win the European Meteorological Society's TV Weather Forecast Trophy award back in 2011. Say what you like about her choice of clothing, but whatever she wears, it's never boring.

We salute you, Jean!
