Serum Layering: why you need to get on this beauty train

Serum Layering: why you need to get on this beauty train

You may have heard people talking about serum layering. This beauty trend is actually not a ploy to get you to spend more money - it's really beneficial.

We are hugely in favour of serum-ing before you put your usual moisturiser on. Serums are extremely effective so they should be a vital part of your skincare regimen. As you can imagine a serum can penetrate the layers of your skin more easily than a cream can. It makes sense -a serum is usually a much thinner consistency than creams and lotions so it should be able to go deeper into the skin.

Often the serums that are highly potent and really pure will have one specific target. For instance a brightening serum or a vitamin B serum. Each has a purpose and are entirely necessary to almost everyone but you actually need both. The same goes for most serums. They can, of course, be used alone but used in conjunction with other serums you can target different problem areas.

There are lots of reasons to mix serums. You might want to use a vitamin serum along with a natural plant-based serum. Or you might want to use different vitamins to treat different conditions. Sometimes you could use a different serum in the morning and evening. It could even be down to the simple reason that you love the smell and texture of one serum and you want to incorporate it into your regimen.

Everybody's skin will have different needs or problem areas; choose serums according to your concerns. If pigmentation and redness are an issue for you, you might want a vitamin C serum like Juliette Armand Forte C serum or a brightening serum like Image Iluma Intense Lightening Serum. However, if sensitivity and dryness are an issue you might go for a vitamin E serum.  If you are interested in this serum layering philosophy you should talk to your beauty therapist about choosing the best ones for your particular skin type.
