Semi-permanent eyelash extensions have quickly become one of the beauty world’s top trends.

Long, full lashes that you don’t need to touch for weeks... sure, what more could a girl want?

However, before you take the plunge, make sure you are fully aware of what happens after you get them, including the aftercare.

Make sure your eyelashes don't get wet for the first two hours

The glue is not fully set for at least two hours after application, therefore, you shouldn't get them wet for at least two hours. Preferably 24 hours.

Do not use a spa, sauna or pool for the first 24 hours

The extensions need that amount of time to properly bond.

Avoid pulling or rubbing your eyes

Remember these semi-permanent lashes are attached to your natural lash with strong glue. If you pull one out you will most likely be pulling a natural lash with it.

Proper hygiene is very important

Brushing your lashes through and cleaning them is essential. You can purchase a foaming wash to clean them with from most salons.

Use only mascaras that are safe for eyelash extensions

Avoid using any oil-based or waterproof mascaras. Oil-based mascaras can erode the glue used to bond the lashes.

Don't rub your lashes

After showering avoid rubbing lashes, it best to blot them with a towel and let them air dry.You can also dry the lashes by using a hair dryer on the cool setting and blowing them dry from the bottom up. It makes them curlier and fluffy.

Be careful of creams

Use care when applying facial and eye creams because too many oil-based products can break down the adhesive.

You will need to get refills

In order to keep your lashes looking their best, it is a good idea to get them refilled every two to four weeks.

You will have to carry around a spooley 24/7

A spooley, which looks like a mascara wand, is the key to keeping your lashes looking fluttery and flawless for as long as possible.

Choose your cleanser carefully

Avoid oil-based cleansers too as the oil will loosen the adhesive glue, resulting in premature fallout.

WARNING- you may become addicted

Getting extensions can really simplify any makeup routine. For instance, there's no need to use mascara with them which can really save you time in the morning when you're rushing out the door!
