This Year's Freshest Beauty Look As Seen At The Oscars

This Year's Freshest Beauty Look As Seen At The Oscars

Old-school Hollywood glamour could be seen all over  the red carpet at Sunday's Oscars shenanigans but something was a-miss. Yes, there were beautiful gowns, of course and fabulous hair dos, for sure but va-va-voom makeup was less apparent than a few years ago.

I'm all for it! The looks that stood out (ironically) were courtesy of Margot Robbie, Dakota Johnson, Naomi Watts and fairest of them all - without all that warpaint - was Julianne Moore.

The main feature of the less dramatic face was the eyes. The woman below were practically eyeshadow-less but eyelashes were curled and mascara-d to various degrees of Twigginess.  Complexions were flawless, eyebrows were big, for the most part, and groomed and lips were given a good aul slick of lip colour.

  • Margot Robbie

We'll start with Margot because her red lip is the most dramatic feature of any of the looks. It's a great shade and the perfect matte. Her eye make up is as minimal as it can be without not being there at all and it really works. Her hair looks great too.

  • Dakota Johnson

Dakota has more going on in the eye area but it's a beautiful subtle bronze that looks like they've come straight from one of Urban Decay's Naked palettes. Her ponytail is the casual clincher. It's a fab ensemble overall.

  • Naomi Watts

Naomi does surfer chic. Her big earrings up the glam but over all it can be summed up in one word - cool. Oh so cool.

  • Julianne Moore

Julianne's makeup is so pared down it's barely there. It's so her and she looks spectacular. Her hair is the most traditional awardsy style, simple and elegant and it looks amazing with her natural face.  Freckle-faced strawberries take note!

Full on glamour isn't a thing of the past but these makeup looks are so refreshing. It's lovely to see that you don't need to kohl your eyes, stick on huge, fakes lashes or go mad on countering to look 'done' for a big night out. The Oscars are as big as it gets! Maybe next year nominees will go barefaced! Maybe we'll watch this space.

Do you like these makeup looks? Might you abandon the smoky eye for a wave of nude instead? Did any star's makeup stand out for you? Let's hear it in the comments!
