Brand new (but NOT shiny) from Rimmel, Stay Matte Liquid Mousse is a foundation that promises feather-light yet flawless coverage and a natural-looking matte finish. That, coupled with the "shine control" strapline, had me verrry interested in trying it out.
Of the six shades I was sent and the lightest three that I tried, I found Ivory to be the best match for my skin. The liquid mousse is easy to work with and a little goes a long way; about two pea-sized measures were all it took to do my whole mush. The whipped texture incorporates gel emulsifiers and applied and blended beautifully with my foundation brush to cover imperfections, redness, and uneven tone without heaviness or caking, leaving skin looking polished and velvety soft.
The finish is, as the product name suggests, totally matte, and although I found a small amount of oil breaking through my nose after a few hours it was nothing that a dab of powder or blotting paper wouldn't have sorted. The rest of my oily zones did indeed stay matte, while the areas prone to dehydration stayed flake-free, a feat most mattifying foundations can't manage on my combo-to-oily skin.
I dressed the end result up for summer with some highlighter and shimmering bronzing powder - all that matte was a bit much on its own for this time of year - but it's not actually hitting the shelves until September, and I think it will make a great foil for vampy lips and darker eyes over the coming months.
Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse foundation is available from September, priced at €7.99
