Longest-serving Resident of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home Finally Adopted

Biscuit, a dog who spent a total of 689 days in a number of different shelters, has finally gotten himself a forever home after nearly 5,000 rejections. And if this doesn't melt your heart on a freezing January day then we don't know what will.

Biscuit had unfortunately earned himself the title of the longest-serving resident at the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, but he has finally found himself a place to stay for good as a newly-married couple, Gemma and Darren Hunt, from Aldershot, have taken him home.

Blake, as he is now known, has settled in to life with his new family well, and speaking about their decision to take on biscuit after so many had passed on the two-year-old mongrel, Gemma (who can be seen in the centre, main image above) said that the couple had lost their last dog eight years ago, another rescue, and that "we promised ourselves if we took on another dog it would be one that needed us the most - and Biscuit turned out to be that dog."

She added that Biscuit/Blake is now a part of their family and he's getting better every day at adapting to their lives: "He's so clever, loving and willing to learn and it makes him a joy to be around. He loves to cuddle up on the sofa, and even knows in the evening that when his blanket comes out that it's his time to snuggle. I know we have an unbreakable bond. Who couldn't fall for a face like his?"

Biscuit had been at the centre for a total of 689 days after coming in as a stray in February of 2013, and while there is no limit for how long a dog or cat can stay with them, Biscuit was there 22 times longer than the average, and was rejected by an estimated 5,000 potential owners.

And we want to know about your furry friends (boyfriends/husbands in need of a wax not included in this category)? Did they arrive to you from a rescue centre or did they just, you know, decide to adopt you?
