Your step by step guide to easy summer makeup

Your step by step guide to easy summer makeup
By Sarah Jane Lanagan  | Jun 2, 2016

When the sun starts shining, the last thing any of us wants is to be stuck indoors, which is where a quick makeup look comes in very useful indeed – and this is as quick as they come.

I’ve given a rundown of the products I used for each step, but it would be easy to tailor it all to suit your own makeup bag and preferences too.

To start, I prepped my model’s skin using This Works In Transit Camera Close-Up (€39.50), which acts as both a moisturiser and primer (you can find our more about it here).

I’d usually apply foundation/base products with my fingers on myself, but here I used the Make Up Forever #150 brush (€38) which is one of my all time favourites. The bristles are slanted, so works well for foundation, contour, blush – you name it.

For summer, a lightweight base with added SPF is always a plus, so I used the L’Occitane CC Cream 20SPF (€33) as it gives skin a lovely glow, but there are plenty of other options out there with higher SPF available.

To even out any areas that needed more coverage I used Bare Minerals BareSkin concealer which has a beautiful liquid texture so it blends seamlessly for a “real skin” finish.

Essence eye shadow base €3.10

I’ve previously written about the Essence Eyeshadow Base and have been impressed with the results, especially given the price point.

Here it’s just been blended all over the lid to give a soft matt finish which helps to avoid transfer and smudging of mascara/liner etc. later on.

Inglot Kohl Pencil €13

Liquid liner comes naturally to some people, and for others, it’s much more difficult. Here I wanted to create a soft line rather than anything too hard or harsh, so I decided to use a waterproof gel pencil from Inglot (€13) instead of a liquid liner.

These are soft as butter and are easy to get right into the lash line. To finish off, add a little mascara and if you wish, some soft brown in the socket line.

Japonesque Pro Performance Lip Lacquer, shade 5, €21.13 via asos.com

Continuing with the soft summer feel, I chose a tinted gloss instead of a lipstick, first on lips and then tapped lightly on the apples of cheeks for a hint of colour.

This particular one from Japonesque (€21.13 on asos.com) worked beautifully with Aoife’s colouring, but a coral, orange or red would look great if you had a tan. To finish it all off, I used a setting spray, but you could just as easily dust some pressed/loose powder along the T-Zone.

Et voila! A simple, but pretty summer make-up. It seems like a lot more effort when I’m writing it all down but it was quick in reality, I promise.
