3 colour extending and protecting shampoos worth investing in

Colour extending shampoos might be an investment, but they're worth it for the results.

There are many shampoos in the world, from thickening to strengthening to volumising and beyond. But today we're focusing in on colour extending formulas. Because if you're like us, you'll want to get the very most out of your December colour so it lasts until February or March. Yes, we know that any hairdresser worth their salt would say that's not on, but when you're broke after Christmas you have to make things stretch.

We've been trailing some different colour extending shampoos lately and here are the ones that have impressed.

  • Redken Colour Extend Magnetics

One of the things we like best about this shampoo (and the conditioner as well) is how little you have to use. For medium length hair, for example, you only need about a euro coin sized amount for each wash. The formula works really well for in terms of holding colour in hair and leaves it feeling nourished and silky too.

Normally, a 300ml bottle is about €17 from salons, but we've spied a great offer online via Feelunique who have it for €11.46. On top of that, there's also a duo pack available with 500ml shampoo and condition for just €32.40.

  • AVEDA Colour Conserve Shampoo

If you're a brunette who finds their colour turns a bit brassy after a while, then this is the shampoo for you. It not only keeps your colour brighter for longer but also keeps it in tip-top condition, too. The usual retail price is €25 but if you're quick, you can pick it up for €20 via the Brown Thomas website where it's currently on sale.

  • Klorane Mango Butter Shampoo

French pharmacy favourite Klorane might be best known for their dry shampoo, but we also really rate this one. The gentle formula is particularly good for blonde hair that needs hydration and protection from breakages. And this gives it in spades, without adding weight or residue. Plus, it smells great and at €11.50 (via Meaghers Pharmacy) it won't break the bank either.
