Three Top Tips For Washing Your Hair Because It's Not As Simple As It May Seem

We have been washing our hair all our lives so we should be pretty good at it at this stage right? You might be missing a trick or two.

Use the right shampoo for your hair

Did you know that there are a lot of shampoos out there that can be too heavy and rich for our hair?

If you have naturally blond to brown hair that is fine you probably don't need a very rich shampoo.

Products like Moroccan Oil or Argan oil and Aussie shampoos are too heavy for your hair when used on a regular basis.

They should be kept for an occasional treatment as opposed to everyday use.

They will cause build up in your hair and it can become greasy quickly.

The heavier shampoos are best for thick coarse hair or very dry, sun-damaged hair.

Start a shampoo routine

Our second tip is that when you start a new shampoo wait until your hair really needs a wash. We're talking greaseball hair here.

You may need to wear it tied back and pretend you have a hair mask in.

Yes, go for as long as you can bear without washing it.

Ideally four or five days so that the natural oils build up in your hair.

When you finally wash it with your new shampoo, give it two washes and a good rinse.

Then do not wash it for two to three days or as long as you hope to get out of your hair.

What you are doing here is building a cycle.

Your hair will become accustomed to being washed, say, twice a week.

Starting this cycle from the very beginning will help to regulate your oil production.

Dry your hair before applying conditioner

Finally, when you apply conditioner, your hair should be as dry as possible.

Wring your hair out to remove the heavy water, even give it a quick rub with a towel and apply the conditioner from the mid-length to the ends of your hair.

If your hair is too wet when you apply the conditioner it will just slip off.

However, if you dry off your hair the conditioner can stick to each strand and penetrate into the shaft.
